Paul Merson insists he doesn't even see Southampton levelling Derby County's 11-point record this season.
There would hardly be any Southampton fan who has been unfazed by pundit Paul Merson's Saints predictions. Well, surely it's not new but the last few months have expressed the animosity in Merson's heart quite openly.
Now, having been a Big Six icon, and an Arsenal great, it isn't surprising for the ex-striker to be a bit harsh on struggling Southampton. But, still, his verdict feels more than commentary at times.
Guess what? Now we know why so. A mere scroll in Paul Merson's player profile says it all.
Yes, the forward has been an ex-Portsmouth hero too. Well, given the club and Southampton's southern coast history, everything ultimately makes sense.
Realizing this, what do you feel can be Merson's worst Saints forecast as a former Pompey? It's simple, given their bleak recent Premier League history, they would want Southampton to achieve new lows too.
So here it is. Recently, ahead of the Premier League matchday, Merson made another dire claim for Southampton regarding their still possible lowest points record.
Writing in his Sportskeeda column, the pundit not only went for another 0-3 forecast against the Saints this weekend but also expressed his not seeing the club even cross Derby's 11 points total.
In his words: "Southampton need one more point to equal Derby County's unwanted record of having the lowest points in a Premier League season. Do I expect them to do it? I'd have to say no."
Well, certainly, every Saints supporter would want to escape this situation, but will they be able to?
In case you didn't notice, it has been months of stretches between Southampton's last Premier League points, and should this happen now, the club will prove their biggest critic true again.
Hopefully, Southampton doesn't see this becoming the campaign-ending reality this summer.
