We looked at two Sheffield Wednesday players that could be sold for big money in the future.

Sheffield Wednesday will be hoping for a much-improved campaign in the Championship this season.

Wednesday secured safety last season following a remarkable turnaround under Danny Rohl, and while it has been a slow start to the new campaign, there is still plenty of hope that they can climb the table in the year ahead.

Rohl signed a new long-term contract at Hillsborough in May, and it was a busy summer transfer window for the Owls as the German rebuilt his squad, with 11 new players joining the club.

There were fears heading into the summer that Rohl would not be backed in the transfer market, but that was certainly not the case, and the strong recruitment has eased some of the pressure on owner Dejphon Chansiri, who was the subject of multiple protests from supporters last season.

However, some concerns about Chansiri still remain, and one of the criticisms during his tenure has been that Wednesday have been unable to bring in significant transfer fees for players, with a host of high-profile names and talented academy products leaving for free over the years.

Having tied many of the Owls' stars down to new contracts in recent months, it seems Chansiri's approach is changing, and we looked at two players who could be sold for big money in the future.

Pierce Charles

Goalkeeper Pierce Charles is undoubtedly the most exciting young player currently on Wednesday's books.

Charles made his debut for the Owls in their 1-1 draw against Coventry City in the FA Cup fourth round in January, and he has firmly established himself in the first team since then.

League One side Crawley Town were reportedly keen to sign Charles on loan this summer, but Rohl decided against allowing the 19-year-old to depart temporarily, and despite the arrival of Ben Hamer from Watford, he has been Wednesday's second choice goalkeeper so far this season.

Charles, who signed a new contract at Hillsborough in May, has started all three of the Owls' EFL Cup games this campaign, and he has impressed on each occasion, making a number of excellent saves and showing remarkable confidence with the ball at his feet.

It could be tough for Charles to dislodge current number one James Beadle this season, but it seems likely that Charles will be his long-term successor when he returns to Brighton & Hove Albion next summer at the end of his loan spell.

Charles is a player with huge potential, underlined by the fact that he was called up to the Northern Ireland senior squad for the first time earlier this year, and while Wednesday will be desperate not to lose him any time soon, he could make them millions when he does eventually move on.

Bailey Cadamarteri

Wednesday supporters had long called for striker Bailey Cadamarteri to be given a chance in the first team, and with the club struggling towards the bottom of the Championship table, he got his opportunity last season.

Cadamarteri made a big impact after his introduction to the team as he netted three goals in four games at the start of December, and while his game time became a little more limited in the second half of the season, he ended the campaign with a respectable total of five goals and one assist in 25 appearances.

After the arrivals of Jamal Lowe, Charlie McNeill and Ike Ugbo saw Cadamarteri fall down the pecking order, the 19-year-old joined League One side Lincoln City on a season-long loan this summer, with the Imps fighting off competition from the likes of Wrexham, Huddersfield Town, Stockport County, Blackpool, Motherwell and Dundee United to land his signature.

Working under Michael Skubala at Sincil Bank will be hugely beneficial for Cadamarteri as he continues his development, and the Owls will hope that he can enjoy similar success to Luton Town's Joe Taylor, who scored an impressive 10 goals and registered three assists in 19 games while on loan at Lincoln last season.

The Star claimed in June that "at least three Premier League outfits" were keeping tabs on Cadamarteri, as well as a number of Championship clubs, and if he can have a prolific season in the third tier, his list of suitors is only likely to increase.

Given that he signed a long-term contract at Hillsborough in December, Wednesday do have some security over Cadamarteri's future, but it seems like a matter of time until their resolve to keep hold of him is tested by a top flight side, and he could bring in a big windfall for the club at some stage.
