Burnley have plenty of assets who could attract interest in the summer

A summer of uncertainty awaits Burnley in the coming months, with several players likely to attract attention, while as yet they still have no idea what league they'll be playing in next season.

They'll hope to be gracing the Premier League again next season, but in the midst of what looks to be a four-horse race for the two automatic promotion spots, their league status for next season is nowhere near assured.

With the Championship shaping up for a hugely competitive end to the season, the outcome likely won't become any clearer until May, and what division Burnley are playing will have a huge bearing on what some of their best players decide to do.

Several out-of-contract stars won't help either, with no fewer than six first-team players set to depart at the end of the season when their deals expire, which means the summer is shaping up to be a window of upheaval yet again for the Clarets.

Here we take a look at some under-contract stars who could also be heading out of the exit door at the end of the season.

4 Maxime Esteve

Perhaps the most high-profile potential summer mover of them all, Maxime Esteve is attracting interest from the Premier League, with Crystal Palace the latest club to register an interest in a man who has been among the best defenders in the Championship this season.

Left-footed and just 22 years of age, Esteve is a rare commodity in the modern game, and having signed a new five-year deal in September, he is sure to command a healthy fee.

Having paid €15m to sign Esteve, it wouldn't be far-fetched to expect Burnley will be asking for north of £30m for a player who is under a long-term contract, young, left-footed and Premier League standard.

Another man who is likely to command a huge fee if he leaves Turf Moor in the summer is James Trafford, who has had the season of his life in the second tier.

He's been breaking all kinds of records for clean sheets and goals against, but the elephant in the room is that he's attracting huge interest from Newcastle and Tottenham.

Burnley paid up to £19m to sign Trafford in the summer of 2023, and it's not unreasonable to think they will be hoping to double their money on him.

He's just 22 years of age and has his best goalkeeping years ahead of him, not to mention the English tax he'll command too, a fee of nearly £40m shouldn't be out of the question.

It's a near certainty that Mike Tresor will depart Turf Moor in the summer after a two-season spell that has seen him feature sparingly, owing to a number of off-field issues.

Tresor has played just once for the Clarets this season, with that appearance coming in the FA Cup at Reading, and Scott Parker has confirmed he now won't be available for selection in the near future.

Burnley spent in the region of £16m to sign Tresor two summers ago, but if they get even half of that back they've done incredibly well - £5m seems to be a more realistic fee they could expect.

Luca Koleosho is something of a forgotten man at Turf Moor, failing to make a meaningful impact in the Championship this season after returning from injury over the summer.

The Clarets signed Koleosho from Espanyol two summers ago for a reported £2.6m fee and reportedly slapped a £40m price tag on him last summer when Wolves came calling.

Bayern Munich and old boss Vincent Kompany are believed to hold an interest in taking him this coming summer, but after a below-par Championship season, a fee of £10m is perhaps as much as Burnley can realistically expect.
