Premier League Awards: Enciso stunner, Semenyo or Delap?

Article image:Premier League Awards: Enciso stunner, Semenyo or Delap?

Our Premier League Awards from the weekend action, featuring Antoine Semenyo morphing into Rory Delap and a Julio Enciso stunner.

Moment of the Week

Bournemouth leapfrogged to the front of the race for eighth, a position that could yet secure European football for next season. The Cherries upset an Arsenal side who are largely going through the motions in the run-in, even if Mikel Arteta’s lineup did not exactly scream one eye on Paris Saint-Germain this week.

Bournemouth have won plaudits for their high-intensity brand of football this season but there was something refreshing about their equaliser at the Emirates. Antoine Semenyo channelled his inner Rory Delap to launch a long throw into a panicked penalty box, with Dean Huijsen heading home. Modern football is fixated with intricate passing and robotic patterns of play. Sometimes there’s more than one way to skin a cat.

Player of the Week

After a recent dip, Cole Palmer was back in his usual groove this weekend. Palmer orchestrated Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Liverpool as the Blues beat the newly-crowned champions at Stamford Bridge.

The 22-year-old was involved in the early opener and came close when he hit the post, having shifted past Conor Bradley with ease before catching Alisson out with a deceiving effort. It looked like it might not be his day, but a stoppage-time penalty was perfectly placed to end his goal drought. Palmer looked back in full flow and that’s a big boost to the Champions League-chasing Blues.

Goal of the Week

Julio Enciso has quite the catalogue when it comes to spectacular goals and the Paraguayan added another to his list this weekend. The 2022/23 Goal of the Season winner auditioned for the award again with a brilliant strike in Ipswich’s draw at Everton.

Jordan Pickford had no chance.

Stat of the Week

Ever wondered which Premier League player has scored the most goals with 100% of their haul coming from their left foot?

Probably not, but we’re here to tell you anyway.

Dwight McNeil leaves Psycho in his wake.

Tweet of the Week

Wataru Endo was handed a rare start for Liverpool at Chelsea this week.

It made a change from his usual role, coming off the bench to kick lumps out of the opposition late on.

Cult hero.

A week to forget for…

Jarell Quansah. Liverpool suffered from a title hangover at Chelsea with the champions second-best at Stamford Bridge.

Quansah was given a rare outing in a rotated team and endured an afternoon to forget. First, Virgil van Dijk’s attempted clearance cannoned off the defender for an own goal, before he clumsily brought down Moises Caicedo for a stoppage-time penalty.

A learning curve for the 22-year-old.
