Premier League Team of the Week – Disasi, Van Hecke, Salah

Premier League Team of the Week from the weekend’s action, featuring Liverpool’s record-breaking talisman and an Aston Villa loanee who has found a home.
Questionable positioning for Manchester United’s goal, but the Spaniard redeemed himself after half-time. Superb point-blank stops from Nousaair Mazraoui and Joshua Zirkzee kept the Gunners in the game, before a cat-like double stop late on from Fernandes. Arsenal would not have left Old Trafford with a point without him.
Dictating the game from right-back for Liverpool, who came from behind to beat Southampton at Anfield. Defensively sound, as he was at Paris Saint-Germain, and outrageous on occasion in possession. Constantly probing with his passing range, his ability to unlock defences is unmatched by his positional peers.
An outstanding performance from Disasi, who thrived in a full-back role this weekend. The Frenchman did well to nullify the threat of Brentford’s wide options and showcased his love for defending with some determined interventions. It didn’t quite work out for Disasi at Chelsea but he’s looked right at home in an Aston Villa shirt.
A first Brighton goal and what a goal. Van Hecke met Yasin Ayari’s free-kick with an unsaveable header to get Brighton level in their comeback win against Fulham. The highlight of a strong showing, in which the Dutch defender’s distribution stood out. He completed 93.1% of his passes and 9/11 long balls.
Chelsea’s hero after a laboured win over Leicester. The left-back followed his goal against Southampton with another against the Foxes, a superb strike that arrowed into the far corner. After Cole Palmer’s missed penalty, this was a big moment for the Blues and lifts them into the Premier League’s top four.
Adam Wharton is back impressing in Crystal Palace colours after injury. After a standout showing against Aston Villa, Wharton was at the centre of another Eagles win against Ipswich. The 21-year-old’s ability to scan, receive, and play forward quickly is something Thomas Tuchel must be taking a long look at ahead of next week’s England squad announcement. Wharton looks like a Lancashire La Masia graduate.
Amid question marks over his place in the team, Nicolas Dominguez delivered. Duel-winning, energy and combative quality all over the pitch as Nottingham Forest earned a huge win against Manchester City. His nine duels won was comfortably more than any Forest teammate, as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side stepped closer to the Champions League.
Arguably his best performance in a Wolves shirt. Excellent in and out possession, Andre won the ball back effectively and used it even better against Everton, as Wolves edged further clear of trouble. Almost immaculate on the ball, the Brazilian completed 97.3% of his passes, including 8/8 long balls.
Liverpool were far from their best against Southampton but another three points extended their lead at the summit. Mohamed Salah (who else?) was at the centre of their comeback, creating six chances for his teammates and scoring twice with two clinically taken penalties.
It was a record-breaking afternoon for the Egyptian, who is now the Premier League’s joint-highest scoring overseas player (184) and shares the record for most goal involvements in a 38-game campaign (44) with nine games to go. This campaign is an all-timer.
An underrated part of an exciting Bournemouth side that will be disappointed to have left Tottenham without three points. Tavernier turned in a gorgeous cross from Milos Kerkez to open the scoring in North London, his eighth goal involvement in 15 league starts. He’s already eclipsed last season’s return in nine less appearances this season.
Tavernier’s goal capped a fine all-round display, that saw the winger win 8/11 duels and create three chances for the Cherries.
Brentford must be sick of the sight of their former forward. Watkins’ winner in West London made it six goals in seven Premier League games against the Bees, with his latest crucial to Villa’s hopes of securing Champions League football for next season. A thorn in Brentford’s side all evening, with Thomas Frank’s team struggling to contain him.
