How do those seven Premier League clubs compare?

I have been looking back at their form.

How the seven top Premier League clubs have got on in their last 20 Premier League games.

Here you go.

Last 20 Premier League matches

Liverpool – Played 20 Won 14 Drawn 4 Lost 2 (46 points)

Arsenal – Played 20 Won 10 Drawn 8 Lost 2 (38 points)

Manchester City – Played 20 Won 11 Drawn 4 Lost 5 (37 points)

Newcastle United – Played 20 Won 14 Drawn 1 Lost 5 (43 points)

Chelsea – Played 20 Won 9 Drawn 5 Lost 6 (32 points)

Nottingham Forest – Played 20 Won 11 Drawn 3 Lost 6 (36 points)

Aston Villa – Played 20 Won 10 Drawn 5 Lost 5 (35 points)

Selected others…

Manchester United – Played 20 Won 5 Drawn 5 Lost 10 (20 points)

Spurs – Played 20 Won 5 Drawn 3 Lost 12 (18 points)

Looking at the Premier League form over such a long period, Newcastle United way ahead of the rest across the last 20 PL matches, with the exception of runaway title winners Liverpool AND they only picked up three points more than Newcastle across these last 20 PL games. Plus the small matter of additional to these Premier League stats, across the past five months, Eddie Howe and his players won the League Cup, beating Arsenal in both semi-final legs and defeating Liverpool in the final.

Put it this way, it does make you wonder just what could be possible next season for NUFC, especially if Eddie Howe can add a few more first eleven players.

Putting though this current 20 PL match run into proper perspective, it is the most points that United have picked up in a twenty match Premier League run since winning 2-0 against Sunderland on 21 September 2002 and ending with  a 1-0 win at Spurs on 29 January 2003.

That saw a Newcastle United 2002/03 record across five months of…

Played 20 Won 14 Drawn 2 Lost 4 (44 points)

Looking back at that superb run 22 years ago, I found it amusing to see what happened next. Newcastle United in their next three matches got a draw and then two more wins, so their record across 23 PL matches became an amazing 51 points from the 23 games in a row.

Those next three games back in the 2002/03 season were Newcastle 1 Arsenal 1, Leeds 0 Newcastle 3 and…Newcastle 2 Chelsea 1.

There is no Leeds away to play this time, home to Everton instead. However, a repeat of that 1 March 2003 home win over Chelsea would do very nicely, then a draw against Arsenal would surely top things off ahead of the very final game at home against the scouse mackems.

Regardless, all Newcastle United fans should take great heart and confidence from what has been achieved these past five months under Eddie Howe. Now just a case of finishing the job off.
