PRIMAVERA LOSE 2-1 AWAY TO REAL MADRID

Article image:PRIMAVERA LOSE 2-1 AWAY TO REAL MADRID

Milan Primavera have picked up their second defeat in the Youth League as, at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano, Real Madrid ran out 2-1 winners. The Madrid side’s two goals in the first 20 minutes set the wheels in motion for the final result despite courageous attempts from Guidi’s lads who ended their good run after two league wins over Fiorentina and Hellas Verona. After four games, we only have two points in the table: the next two against Slovan Bratislava and Crvena zvezda will be decisive for qualification.

A brilliant second half wasn’t enough, Sia’s goal got us back in the running, and we managed several chances - especially in the final minutes - meaning we deserved a better outcome. The reaction showed the team's spirit and their desire to fight against a side that wanted to take revenge for the quarter-final defeat in the last edition. Something to note is the various players booked by the referee, both sides played out the game with 10 men. We will try to bounce back in the league with the game on Saturday 9 November (11:00 CET against Cagliari at the PUMA House of Football) ahead of the international break.

MATCH REPORT Balance and little excitement to begin with, the first good chance fell to the home side, allowing them to take the lead in the 12th minute: a low cross from Fortea, with Yañez latching onto it to make it 1-0. Real continued to push, Colzani was pushed into a reactive save in the 16th minute after an effort from Fortuny, but the Rossoneri's keeper could do nothing to stop Fortea's penalty, to double Real's lead in the 19th minute. We couldn't break out of our own half of the pitch and in the 21st minute Colzani excelled in saving another shot from Yañez. The Primavera's first chance came in the 23rd minute, as Liberali put it just wide after a touch from a defender. In the final stage of the first half, the home side had two more chances, but Colzani denied Fortea's and Fortuny's attempts.

The second half started quickly, Sia managed to test Álvaro after 20 seconds. The Rossoneri's control of the game was rewarded as they pulled one back in the 56th minute with Sia: set up by Bonomi's cross, Diego cut inside and beat Álvaro at his near post. Just after making it 1-2, we lost Colzani due to injury: Pittarella replaced him. The match became more intense after the Rossoneri's goal and the bookings started to come, causing both sides to finish with 10 men. The first big chance came in the 82nd minute as Bakoune brushed past after Perin's assist. The last stages were tense, Mancioppi attempted to score and then Stalmach, but the best chance fell to Sala - who hit the post with a right-footed shot - and then Paloschi, who guided a header over from a good position. Full time.
