PSG Told to Drop Gianluigi Donnarumma, Chase Man City Transfer Target

Paris Saint-Germain have a big decision coming up: is Gianluigi Donnarumma still their long-term answer in goal? His contract runs out in 2026, and the clock’s ticking.
Since arriving from AC Milan in 2021, Donnarumma has had his share of standout moments—like the penalty shootout heroics against Liverpool this year. But he’s also made costly errors, including the one against Real Madrid in 2022, that raise questions about his reliability on the biggest stage.
If the capital club decides that the Italian shot-stopper isn’t the guy they want to move forward with, they’ll need to find a new goalkeeper to replace Donnarumma either this summer or next.

In his latest column for PSG Talk Extra Time, Zach Lowy, a multimedia journalist for BBC, SiriusXM, and other outlets, revealed what shot-stopper the newly crowned Ligue 1 champions should pursue to be their long-term goalkeeper: FC Porto’s Diogo Costa.
“Boasting nerves of steel and high levels of concentration, Costa is never one to back away from a challenge and does a magnificent job of organizing his backline, coming off his line to claim crosses, and getting a strong punch to clear the danger,” Lowy wrote.
“Furthermore, he’s a sweeper-keeper with the reflexes and intelligence to make a desperately needed interception when required. Above all, though, he’s a massive upgrade on Donnarumma when it comes to breaking the lines and spreading the ball with his cultured passing ability.”
Costa has suitors, so PSG will need to act fast if they feel as though he’s the No. 1 guy on their transfer wishlist. In February, CaughtOffside reported that Manchester City are looking to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer to replace Ederson, and they’ve already started having conversations to explore potential deals.
