Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi is facing a legal situation, as Agence France-Presse reported that he was placed under formal investigation on February 5 for complicity in vote buying, interference with voting freedom, and abuse of power related to SCA Lagardère.
Despite this, Al-Khelaïfi has not been placed under judicial supervision. However, the news quickly made waves in Doha, where he has been since Wednesday evening, sparking a strong reaction within his inner circle.
With this latest legal development, it could be the tipping point that prompts Qatar to withdraw from French football, according to a source close to the situation who spoke to RMC Sport.

According to RMC Sport, the decision to place Al-Khelaïfi under formal investigation has caused a strong reaction in Qatar. The report also notes that Qatari officials are threatening to pull investments from France, including BeIN Sports and PSG.
Le Parisien reports that since it’s not common practice for the country to comment on what it sees as unfounded rumors, no one in Doha will officially address the matter.
However, at the highest levels, it’s being made clear that there’s no question of Qatari investments pulling out of France, and QIA’s commitment to the country is being reaffirmed, per the report.
In addition, the sovereign wealth fund, through one of its spokespersons, has officially assured PSG’s president of its continued support.
“Regarding the allegations that Mr. Nasser Al-Khelaïfi was involved in improper vote-buying and abuse of power related to the Lagardère company, QIA categorically rejects any claims of misconduct by QIA or Nasser Al-Khelaïfi,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “Mr. Al-Khelaïfi had no significant role in this matter and did not make any decisions regarding it.”
