Connor Clark Barron was born on 29th August, 2002 in Kintore, Scotland. He joined Aberdeen’s youth academy aged eight [08], having already played football for Kintore United.
Over the next decade, Barron represented Aberdeen at all age groups before getting promoted to the first team squad in 2020 and signing his first professional contract with the club. He made his senior debut as a half-time substitute in a Scottish Cup match on 22nd January, 2022 against Edinburgh City.
Rangers FC announced on 20th June 2024 they had signed Barron upon the expiration of his contract at Aberdeen. The Scotland youth international, having represented his nation at U-16, U-17, and U-21 levels, has signed a four year contract with the Light Blues.
“I am absolutely delighted. As soon as I started talking to the club I knew that this was the place for me to come. Everything seemed right and I think it is the best place for me to be at this moment of my career,” said Barron, upon signing for Rangers.
“It is a club where the demand is high to win football matches and trophies and that is something that I really want to be a part of. It was a massive decision for me, but it was made easy by speaking to the staff and the manager and now I can't wait to get started.”
In his time at Aberdeen, Barron made 59 league appearances and a total of 86 across all competitions. He also spent time on loan at Brechin City [2020-21] and Kelty Hearts [2021-22].
Manager Philippe Clement said: “We are thrilled to welcome Connor to the club.
“He’s a young talented player with the right mentality who’s already gathered a lot of experience in the Scottish Premiership and in Europe.”
Connor Barron joins fellow new signing Mohamed Diomandé in the Gers midfield, and will hope to soon push for a starting place as the Light Blues look to wrest the Scottish Premiership crown back from old foes Celtic.
Nils Koppen, Director of Recruitment, said: “It is important that young Scottish talents play a big part in the years ahead, and we are delighted to add a talented midfielder in Connor to the ranks at Rangers.
