Claudio Ranieri had nothing but high praise for his men after Roma came back to beat Athletic Bilbao 2-1 in the first leg of the Europa League Round of 16.

After the match, the Italian technician spoke highly of his team in the post-match press conference.

When asked what changed about the team in the last months, Ranieri joked, “The coach,” he said, laughing.

“There is trust among the players who follow me, trust in the fact that everyone gives their all. I feel very good with this team, with these guys.”

“I wasn’t a champion as player, but I never gave up on the pitch. I could have lost, but they had to get past me. This is what I ask of them too. You can lose, because sometimes you play against strong teams, but the important thing is always the performance.”

“How many times have you heard me say that? Fight to the end and go home knowing you gave your all. Whether you won or lost, the important thing is to be satisfied with the match, because you couldn’t have done more than what you gave.”

“Then, obviously, when someone is tired or not in shape, you have to make changes.”
