Shortly after confirming two loan deals, RB Leipzig confirmed the surprise arrival of another player. French youth international Tidiam Gomis has joined the Saxony club six months earlier than planned.
Philipp Hinze reports that the final transfer fee totals around €1m, significantly less than the €3-4m initially reported. The teenage talent can play a number of positions in attack, yet tends to do better on the left. It was from this position that he scored two Ligue 1 goals in 20 substitute appearances for SM Caen this season.
“We are very pleased that we were able to convince Tidiam of our ideas despite strong competition on the international level,” RB managing director Marcel Schäfer noted in a club statement. ”We have been working on this transfer for months and, after his commitment, we decided to bring him to Leipzig as early as the winter. This gives us one more option in attack. Above all, however, it gives Tidiam the necessary time to settle in.”
