After months of speculation, Tyler Bindon finally sealed a move to the Premier League in the winter transfer window, as he left League One Reading to join high-flying Nottingham Forest in the top flight.

The defender will remain at the Select Car Leasing Stadium until the end of the season as part of the deal to take him to the City Ground, with the Royals benefiting for his services for the next few months before he eventually flies the nest.

The 20-year-old has been a revelation since being thrown into the deep end at the start of the last campaign, with his exemplary performances proving him worthy of a move to to the top flight, with his assuredness in and out of possession making him a desirable asset for many of the country’s top clubs.

Having seen him up close and personal for the best part of 18 months, we spoke to Football League World’s Reading fan pundit Johnny Hunt about how far the defender could go in his career.

Tyler Bindon tipped for successful Premier League after earning Nottingham Forest move

With just five months left on his contract before departing the Madejski Stadium, Reading cashed in on one of their most valuable assets while they still could this winter, with Forest said to have paid a ‘modest fee’ to the League One side for his services, according to The Athletic.

For that presumed bargain fee, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have picked up a player who has been a pillar of consistency in Berkshire over the past year-and-a-half, and helped to hold the fort in a period of uncertainty surrounding the club’s future.

The Auckland-born star defies his years with his performances in the backline, while his positioning, vision with the ball at feet, and physical attributes look to have him set up for a fruitful career in the future.

Hunt has no doubt that will be the case, with the Royals fan offering a response when questioned if the defender could make it in the Premier League.

“Without doubt,” Johnny said. “I think Tyler Bindon is only going to get better and better playing at higher levels.

“He is way too good for League One, he is still very young and has a lot too learn, but he has the natural attributes to be a quality centre-back.

“He reads the game very well, has a calm head, is good on the ball and is good in the air, and will really improve by being around better players."

Tyler Bindon made the right choice in Nottingham Forest after Arsenal links

With speculation surrounding Bindon’s future circulating for quite some time, there had been talk of fellow Premier League suitors in the past, with Arsenal the side most prominently linked with a move in the past.

The Gunners were said to have been impressed with the New Zealander during his early days at the club, but no bid ever materialised, before Forest pinched him from under their nose in the dying embers of the transfer window.

There is no doubt that the centre-back could make it at the City Ground in the years to come, and Hunt believes the move to Nottingham has helped his pathway up the pyramid much more than a move to London would have done.

Johnny continued: “I think in Forest, the journey they are on is a great fit for him as a player, as I think he will get the opportunities there.

“The last thing he needs is to go and sit on the bench for a season or two, that is not going to help his development, and if he avoids injuries early in his career, he will go on to be a top player.

“I wish him the best of luck, he is a good guy as well and is keen to learn, he is humble, a battler, a good teammate, all the things you want from a top professional, I think he has got it.”
