In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo revealed that Real Madrid are leading the race for Botafogo forward Matheus Nascimento. It has been mentioned that Los Blancos could face competition from Chelsea in pursuit of the gifted striker.
Nascimento has come through the youth ranks of Botafogo and deserves credit for successfully establishing himself as a key member of their senior team. The 18-year-old has made 56 senior appearances for the Brazilian club so far, banging in eight goals and grabbing two assists on all fronts.
The Rio de Janeiro-born talent has made most of his league appearances off the bench this season which could be why he is only averaging 0.6 shots, 0.4 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Brasileirao. He has been a bit sloppy with his ball distribution after completing only 65.9% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Nascimento’s current contract at Botafogo is set to run out at the end of 2025. Therefore, Los Blancos will have to make a big offer if they want to bring him to the Spanish capital next year.
Santiago Bernabeu Stadium
Nascimento has a knack for scoring important goals for his team and can make some clever runs in and around the opponent’s penalty box. He is a decent dribbler with the ball as well but is still quite raw and would need time to grow into a world-class striker. The Brazilian prospect is primarily a centre-forward but can also fill in as a wide player on either flank if his manager tells him to do so.
However, there is no denying that Nascimento has the potential to become a success story at a top club like Real Madrid in the future.
Nascimento will have to prove his worth for the Madrid club‘s B team if Carlo Ancelotti can find a way to win the race for him. He is still quite inexperienced at the highest level and would need time to adapt to life in Spanish football.
Still, there is no doubt that Nascimento will be a prospect to watch out for in the future, especially if he can continue to improve his game with each season. With all things considered, it makes sense for Los Blancos to engineer a move to lure the Botafogo whizkid to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium next year.
