Real Madrid have had hits and misses in recent months over top transfer targets.

Names like Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham have arrived and clicked while others like Leny Yoro and Alphonso Davies slipped out of their hands.

Heading into next summer, however, the men in white retain their massive ambition and are eyeing a reinforcement for the right-back department.

After all, Dani Carvajal’s injury left the department exposed and the club has struggled in his absence.

The top priority

As relayed by Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid are obsessed with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold who has been linked with the club for a long time now.

He is their only priority target, and the Italian journalist describes him to be Los Blancos’ transfer target number one, two, and three.

Florentino Perez and Co. see him to be the perfect fit into their system and long-term plans and there are thus no doubts over his incorporation either on a sporting or economic level.

As one of the most attacking right-backs with a sound defensive base, the Englishman is the last of a dying breed of flying full-backs.

His contract with Liverpool runs out next summer and he will be available as a free agent in June, making him all the more of a perfect target for the men in white.

So far this season, he has already made 24 Premier League starts for the Merseyside club and has two goals and six assists to show. Further, he averages two key passes per game and has created 14 big chances.

It is reported that Real Madrid already have an agreement in place with Alexander-Arnold, but the administration will be alert to not celebrate early.

After all, the Davies saga has made it clear that it is never over until it is.
