Real Madrid target Alphonso Davies is close to an agreement with Bayern Munich over a new contract, reports have revealed.

Davies has entered the final six months of his current deal and had long been expected to walk away on a free transfer this summer, with Madrid eyeing a bargain swoop after extension negotiations with Bayern had stalled.

Earlier this week, it seemed as though Davies had taken another step closer to the exit door as his agent departed Munich without an agreement over fresh terms. Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United were all expected to be contacted for discussions about a possible free transfer.

Now, however, The Athletic have revealed that Davies is inching closer to putting pen to paper on a new contract with Bayern.

An agreement has not yet been reached but Bayern and Davies are now believed to be agonisingly close to shaking hands and ending the longstanding uncertainty surrounding the left-back's future.

This could prove to be a significant blow for Madrid as Sky Sports Germany recently reported that Davies was effectively part of a package deal alongside midfielder Jamal Musiala, with both players making it clear they wanted to keep playing alongside one another.

A new contract for Davies will, therefore, aid Bayern's hopes of tying Musiala down to a new deal. The Germany international, a target for both Madrid and Manchester City, has 18 months left to run on his current agreement.
