Real Madrid once again showed what they are made of after a 3-2 comeback win against Spanish minnows Leganés.
Scorers: Mbappé 32' (pen), 76', Bellingham 47'; García 33', Raba 41'
As the title race continues to rage on across the top flight of Spanish football, every matchday has the opportunity to throw a spanner in the works of the three biggest clubs in the country, but Real Madrid did well to avoid any speedbumps tonight despite struggling in the first half.
Kylian Mbappé confidently put Real Madrid out in front in the 33rd minute with a cheeky panenka from the penalty spot after Arda Güler was judged to have been brought down in the area.
That narrow lead would last only a matter of seconds after Leganés marched down the pitch to pull back level on the scoresheet through Diego García's third goal of the season despite initial questions of a possible offside were ultimately turned away.
An incisive break by Leganés would see the visitors take a shock 2-1 lead just four minutes before the halftime interval through Daniel Raba, and though Real Madrid were dominant in possession, Borja Jiménez's side capitalsed on the disjointed nature of Carlo Ancelotti's troops at the back.
With a chance to add another giant scalp in 2024/25 after already defeating Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid, Leganés would be made to fight once more after Jude Bellingham slammed home from inside six yards in the 47th minute to once again level matters on the night.
Before Bellingham's timely goal, it was the fifth time this season that Real Madrid trailed at halftime at the Bernabeu, but in what was a must-win fixture for the footballing behemoth, Ancelotti would call upon both Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo in a bid to guarantee the full three points on the night.
Despite the changes, it would be Mbappé again who would put the home side in front with a free kick effort that found its way through a poor Leganés wall and into the bottom corner.
With that, Mbappé climbs level in the scoring chart with league rival Robert Lewandowski as the two strikers continue to be a microcosm of their clubs' chances in the league.
Mbappé's second goal would be enough for Los Blancos to walk away the owner of all three points, with a critical result following in the wake of Atlético de Madrid's slip-up against Espanyol, with Barcelona set to feature tomorrow against Girona.
As things stand, Ancelotti's outfit are once again level on points (63) with Barça and will be hoping for a miracle as the La Liga title race remains hotly contested.
