“No, Barcelona have the advantage, but we have the Clasico and there are many games left,” Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti said when asked if Barcelona had already sealed the league title earlier this week.

The question from the media, quite clearly, was in response to Barcelona’s dominant win over Osasuna in La Liga to take three points from their game in hand and thus establish a three-point lead over Los Blancos.

Ancelotti’s response, however, was reflective of the mood of the entire dressing room who are still optimistic about their chances of winning La Liga as relayed by AS.

Ten games to go

There are ten match days to go before the 2024/25 season of La Liga officially culminates and it is quite clearly still a long way to go.

In a season that comprises 38 games, Real Madrid still have over 25% of the campaign left and good reason to feel optimistic about their chances of closing the gap with Hansi Flick’s side.

Barcelona, on the other hand, will see that they must only hold on for ten games to seal the title.

A look at both teams’ schedules, however, paints a good picture for Real Madrid who have relatively lower-ranked opposition than Barcelona in La Liga.

Their two big games from here on are against Athletic Club later this month and Barcelona in early May. Notably, they must also face Real Sociedad on the final match day.

Barcelona, meanwhile, must play against Girona, Real Betis, Real Madrid and Athletic Club. Notably, however, all except the last fixture will be played at home.

The Clasico scheduled in May, thus, may end up being decisive.

A win for Real Madrid will see them close the gap with Barcelona should both teams go on a perfect run until that point while a defeat will hand Barcelona a dominant six-point lead which would seal the league in their favour.

Ancelotti and Co. strongly believe in their chances of taking down Barcelona and going on a powerful run in the hectic schedule ahead.

They have stepped up under pressure in the past and will need to do the same if they are to pull off the Herculean objectivae this season.
