Real Madrid midfield legend reacts to Xabi Alonso becoming new head coach – “Great step” | OneFootball

Earlier in the day, Real Madrid announced the arrival of Xabi Alonso as the club’s new head coach.

With an official presentation scheduled for tomorrow, Alonso is set to replace Carlo Ancelotti and will lead the Real Madrid team, starting from the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.

Alonso joins at a time when legends such as Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez is set to leave the club. As such, he will be in charge of Real Madrid’s transition phase as he looks to restore the team’s glory after a difficult campaign.

Toni Kroos reacts to Xabi Alonso appointment

Much to Xabi Alonso’s delight, though, the Spaniard has received the approval of Real Madrid legend Toni Kroos.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Kroos reacted to Real Madrid’s appointment of Xabi Alonso, calling it a positive step for both parties.

“Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid? I’m not surprised. I wish him success. I think this is a great step for him and for Real Madrid,” he said.

Despite two players sharing a similar career trajectory, Kroos and Alonso have never actually played together.

Interestingly, Kroos joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2014, when Xabi Alonso was still at Los Blancos. However, weeks later, Alonso made the switch to Bayern Munich.

Despite not playing together, however, Kroos is more than aware of Alonso’s abilities as a coach, having led Bayer Leverkusen to unforeseen success.

As a close follower of German football, Kroos is aware of what Alonso has been able to produce at Leverkusen and believes he can replicate that success at Real Madrid.
