With the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold seemingly wrapped up already, Real Madrid are turning their focus to other transfer targets for the summer window.

Dean Huijsen of AFC Bournemouth is seen as a key target to strengthen the centre-back department and work is being done to secure his signing.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have also prioritised the signing of Real Sociedad and Spain midfield enforcer Martin Zubimendi.

Indeed, the Merengues are accelerating efforts to rope in the Spanish international, who has a release clause worth €60 million in his contract.

Real Madrid now ahead of Arsenal in Zubimendi race

It must be noted that Premier League giants Arsenal are also heavily interested in signing Zubimendi. In fact, not very long ago, it was reported that the midfielder could be headed for the Emirates Stadium come summer.

However, now, according to COPE (h/t Madrid Zone), Real Madrid are ahead of Arsenal in the race for Zubimendi’s acquisition.

The reigning champions of Spain and Europe see the 25-year-old as a priority target and as such are accelerating efforts to beat their competitors for his capture.

Premier League clubs who held an interest in Zubimendi now believe that the midfielder is more likely to sign for Real Madrid in the summer.

Quite how Los Blancos fit the Real Sociedad into the team will be interesting to see considering that they already have a plethora of options in midfield.

After all, Carlo Ancelotti can already count on Luka Modric, Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde, Dani Ceballos, and Jude Bellingham in the centre of the park.

So, any move for Zubimendi might require Real Madrid to offload one of their current midfield players.
