There are some occurrences at Real Madrid that are considered rare, and an academy player breaking into the first team is one such.
While it should not be such a rare occurrence for an elite European club with a distinguished academy, Los Blancos usually have not carved out a reputation as a club that counts on young talents.
Several stars have come up the ranks of La Fabrica over the years but most end up leaving for other first-division teams once they have proven their worth.
Very few, like Nacho Fernandez, have lived on to play a long and illustrious career with the senior setup.
As relayed in a recent report by Fabrizio Romano, Florentino Perez is very happy with the situation of Raul Asencio and the rise he has enjoyed to prominence.

The club president is very happy to see an academy player breaking through and proving his worth with the first-team once again, especially given how Asencio has established himself as a regular starter.
The young Spaniard, after all, has been on fire at the back for Real Madrid in recent months and has shown no signs of pressure even on the big nights.
Asencio’s ability to stay calm and make the right decisions under pressure shows that he is something special and that Real Madrid can possibly plan their long-term future with him in their plans – which is why a new contract is already in the works.
The youngster is currently with La Roja after receiving his first-ever senior Spanish national team call-up and is expected to make his debut under Luis de la Fuente in the coming weeks.
It remains to be seen if Perez’s reaction to Asencio’s situation paves the way for any more academy stars to make it big with the first team.
