Real Madrid have made it clear that they are determined to bring in defensive reinforcements this summer after suffering a difficult season.

The club have already roped in Bournemouth prodigy Dean Huijsen while Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold will join the club as a free agent.

But Real Madrid are looking to reinforce their defence further by bringing in a new left-back, with Alvaro Carreras emerging as the top target.

Real Madrid have been involved in talks regarding Carreras for at least a month now, having already reached personal terms with the player.

However, Real Madrid are still yet to reach an agreement with SL Benfica, who aren’t willing to let the player go for cheap.

According to Portuguese news outlet A Bola, Real Madrid are willing to offer a fee of around €30-35 million for the services of Carreras.

Benfica, however, are only willing to trade if Real Madrid meet the player’s €50 million release clause.

This doesn’t necessarily mean an impasse, though, and there are multiple ways an agreement can still be reached.

Real Madrid, in fact, are hopeful of completing the capture of Carreras as soon as possible.

It has been reported in the past that Benfica are willing to lower the terms of the deal if Real Madrid are ready to offer players in return.

On this occasion, though, Los Blancos are unlikely to offer any players in exchange and would ideally try to haggle over the price tag.

The Spanish giants do have an advantage in the deal as Carreras himself is ready to leave the club. Benfica, therefore, might feel pressurised to accept a cut-price deal to sell their star defensive asset this summer.
