Real Madrid are currently in an open war with the refereeing association in Spain, in the wake of their four-page letter to the authorities, demanding radical reforms within the system.

This comes on the back of Real Madrid’s most recent La Liga encounter against Espanyol, where Los Blancos were not happy with referee’s decision of giving Carlos Moreno only a yellow card despite his dangerous challenge on Kylian Mbappe.

After the game, Real Madrid TV openly attacked the La Liga referees once again and even launched an official complaint to the RFEF and CSD.

Real Madrid’s actions were not met kindly, with La Liga president Javier Tebas also taking a shot at the club, even implying wrongdoings by the club and its president Florentino Perez.

Real Madrid to skip key meeting

Now, in what could only be a sign of escalating tensions, Real Madrid are expected to skip a key meeting with the referees tomorrow, reports MARCA.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), under the new presidency of Rafael Louzan, had organized this meeting as part of a new dialogue initiative aimed at resolving disputes, particularly concerning the refereeing system.

Real Madrid, initially one of the first clubs to confirm attendance, have now decided not to participate.

The club communicated to the RFEF that it does not deem the timing appropriate for such discussions, especially in light of recent controversies.

The meeting was intended to address not only referee interactions but also new competition formats, including the initial stages of the Copa del Rey, and the financial distribution of the Federation’s income.

This absence marks a significant moment as it’s the first such gathering with officials from the RFEF, CTA, and La Liga, aimed at bringing clubs together to discuss these pressing issues.

Real Madrid’s decision not to attend could further complicate the relationship between the club and the refereeing body, and in extension, the Spanish footballing authorities.
