Just under 12 months after they were sensationally dumped out of the Copa del Rey by Alcoyano, Real Madrid faced the third division side in the competition again on Wednesday.
And this time, they got their revenge.
Scorers: Vega 66′; Militão 39′, Asensio 76′, Isco 79′
Both sides had sights of goal in the early stages but it took until the 39th minute for the deadlock to be broken by Real Madrid, when Éder Militão headed in from a corner.
Los Blancos were unable to build on their advantage in the second half, however, and in the 67th minute they were pegged back by a brilliant solo run and strike into the top corner from Alcoyano’s Dani Vega.
But the visitors didn’t let the goal affect them too much, and they soon went back in front when Marco Asensio’s effort from the edge of the box beat the goalkeeper with the aid of a heavy deflection.
And moments later it was 3-1 when Isco bundled home after a mix up in the Alcoyano defence.
