Beyond that, Los Blancos are also considering making a new addition in the midfield department, although that will be set aside for later in the window and not immediate.

Joan Garcia emerges as the goalkeeping target

Other positions in the squad will also be addressed depending on any potential exits from the club in the summer.

As such, Melchor Ruiz of COPE reports that Real Madrid plan to make a move for Joan Garcia of RCD Espanyol if backup goalkeeper Andriy Lunin leaves in the summer.

Thibaut Courtois is believed to have agreed a contract with the club and will continue as the first-choice goalkeeper next season. Lunin, though, could be on the move despite having a contract until 2030.

In that scenario, Real Madrid see Garcia as the most suitable replacement and plan to make a move for the 2024 Paris Olympics gold medallist.

The 24-year-old Spaniard has been one of the most standout goalkeepers in La Liga this season and has been a major reason behind Espanyol being in a position to avoid relegation.

Garcia has a release clause worth €25 million in his contract with the Catalan club which could rise to €30 million if he earns a call-up to the Spain national team in the coming weeks.

Real Madrid’s arch-rivals Barcelona also hold a strong interest in the 24-year-old custodian. So, it might not be a straightforward pursuit for the Merengues if they decide to go after his signing.
