Florian Wirtz is indeed one of world football’s brightest young talents and has emerged as a serious target for Real Madrid in the coming transfer windows.
The 21-year-old, after all, has been in stunning form this season and already has nine goals and nine assists to his name in just 19 Bundesliga appearances. He also has seven goals contributions in the UEFA Champions League.
Wirtz, thus, has been one of the top players on the Merengues’ radar from Germany alongside Alphonso Davies as they see him to be one of the missing pieces in their puzzle.
The youngster has largely been regarded as one of the team’s priority signings for the upcoming transfer window and Real Madrid have been trying to press the accelerator and seal his arrival before he pens a renewal.

As relayed by BILD (h/t Defensa Central), however, Wirtz believes that 2026 would be the right time to move to an elite club like Real Madrid so as to give himself enough time to mould into the player needed at such a respectable club.
He thus plans to extend his contract with Bayer Leverkusen currently but will maintain a release clause of around €100 million to facilitate a move to Real Madrid.
Wirtz’s current deal in Germany runs until the summer of 2027, and Real Madrid can thus forget any possibility of luring him on a free transfer if he is fixated on a renewal.
The board must thus evaluate if the €100 million is better splashed on Wirtz or utilised to strengthen other avenues of interest, especially with the quarter of Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe working well.
