Real Sociedad star Sheraldo Becker on Sunday provided his take on the recent speculation linking him with a move back to former club Ajax.
And the attacker’s comments proved altogether head-turning.
Becker, for his part, only made the move to Spain this past January.
Identified as the ideal replacement for the outbound Momo Cho, the 29-year-old put pen to paper on terms with Imanol’s troops in a cut-price deal, ahead of the expiration of his contract with Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin in the summer.
After netting on his Sociedad debut in the Copa del Rey, Becker has since gone on to play something of a bit-part role in San Sebastián, on his way to just a pair of La Liga starts.
In turn, speculation has already begun to spread, pointing towards a potential Anoeta exit for the attacker.
Dutch giants Ajax, with whom Becker spent the developmental years of his career, are understood to be expressing a keen interest in bringing the Suriname international back to Amsterdam this summer.
Speaking in an interview with ESPN, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, this weekend, the subject of a potential Ajax reunion was in turn put to Becker himself.
And though he was eager to reiterate his happiness with La Real, the Amsterdam native also went on to admit that, in the case of the Eredivisie heavyweights making contact, ‘we’ll see what happens’:
“I feel like I’ve been here a long time, I’ve been very well received by the guys,” Becker began. “After four and a half years at Union Berlin, I was ready to take another step and I also had many options. In the end I chose Real Sociedad with my heart.”
Drawn on the alleged interest of Ajax, he continued:
“To be honest, they need to reinforce themselves with some players, they need to improve the quality. But I play for Real Sociedad with all the midfielders who play in the Spanish selection. Ajax can always call me and then we’ll see what happens.”
