Tijjani Reijnders has become a key player for AC Milan this season, improving significantly in front of goal, and a contract renewal is now on the cards. This was confirmed by the midfielder himself, stating that it will be completed ‘soon’.
This season, Reijnders has found the back of the net an impressive eleven times across all competitions. Last season, although he was important then too, he only scored four goals and that says a lot about his improvement.
Speaking to France Football, as transcribed by MilanNews, Reijnders discusses his journey to becoming more clinical in front of goal. He also confirmed that he will extend his contract with Milan soon, hoping to win trophies with the club in the future.
On his improvements…
“I have sort of had a turning point. I’m much more decisive than before. I was in too much of a hurry before, so I worked on that. I did a lot of shooting exercises and, with my father and brother, we watched my games to analyse my behaviour in front of goal.
“Today, I’m much more present on the pitch and, above all, I have gained more composure. When I get into the attacking zone, I know what to do. I scored my first two goals, I gained confidence and everything changed.
“My stats have put me in the spotlight, but that’s a positive thing: it means I’m playing well! But it doesn’t put any extra pressure on me. Every time I go out on the pitch, I smile because I’m so happy to play. I enjoy it because, so far, I have never had the slightest injury.”
On the future…
“My biggest goal is to win as many trophies as possible. Because if I play football, it’s to write my name in the history books. I hope that this will be possible at Milan, with whom I will soon extend my partnership.
“To be a candidate for the Ballon d’Or one day is a dream, of course, because it says a lot. Everything will depend on my performances and the trophies I win. If I continue to strive to be the best player possible in every match, to work hard for the team and to be decisive, it will be easy to be nominated.”
Reijnders should get some rest tonight as Milan will take on Empoli, having played the last 13 league games from start. This means that he should be in even better condition for the important first leg against Feyenoord in the Champions League play-off next week.
