Stade de Reims have opened talks with French Hertha Berlin striker Myziana Maolida (23), the German club have announced. Bundesliga’s seventeenth-placed side have allowed the former Lyon youth product to fly away to France so the deal should go ahead before the January transfer window slams shut tonight.
Maolida is no stranger to Ligue 1 football. After his breakout years at Lyon, Nice splashed €10m to acquire him in 2018. But he only scored five goals in 63 games played with Les Aiglons. Nice recouped some of the fee thay paid for him by agreeing a €4m move to Hertha Berlin in 2021.
Maolida saw his game time dwindling in the German capital. He only played three Bundesliga and failed to find the net. He scored once in the German Cup tie that Hertha lost against minnows Eintracht Braunschweig this season. Reims have been quiet so far in the January transfer window as the Champagne side is flourishing under the guidance of Anglo-Belgian 30-year-old head coach Will Still. Reims extended their 12-game unbeaten streak by snatching an away draw at PSG last Sunday.
