“Reluctant sale” from Champions League rivals could bring Chelsea player they chased last month

Chelsea’s January left everyone with the strong impression of unfinished business.

The Blues seemed to go after a few different major targets, and were quite clearly targeting a left wing option at times, but ended up without buying anyone ready to make a first team impact.

That decision is already looking shaky, as our form has continued to disintegrate since and a lack of options out wide and up front continue to hurt us.

Many of those deals – including a bid for Marc Guehi in defence and possibly a striker too – will be revisited in the summer. Perhaps the most likely to be engaged again are the efforts to sign Alejandro Garnacho.

Chelsea insider Ben Jacobs made us regularly aware of Chelsea’s interest in him throughout last month, and while nothing came of it, he remains confident that the Blues are going to come back for another go in the summer:

“There’s still a feeling, even though it’d be a reluctant sale, that Alejandro Garnacho is a player that, on the books, could be very valuable and in the same way that Manchester United would have considered a sale in January, it will be the case again for financial reasons in the summer too,” Jacobs said in his story for GIVEMESPORT.

No telling what state Chelsea and United are in come this summer

Of course, the summer feels pretty far away right now both for Chelsea and United, who are in separate death spirals of their own.

There are a lot of moving parts here, and it’s tough to know what state each team will be in, who will be in charge and what sporting director will have charge of the project. But as it stands, it looks likely we go back for another try soon.
