Jorge Sampaoli could be reunited with a former player as according to a report from RMC Sport, Stade Rennais are testing Olympique de Marseille’s commitment to keeping their previous captain Valentin Rongier (30).
Rennes look to be acting swiftly in the market as they try to use the winter transfer window to turn around a bitterly disappointing season where they sit in the bottom half of the table. The club have already brought Seko Fofana (29) back to France and reportedly reached an agreement in principle for Brice Samba (30).
However, Rongier could prove to be a harder player to recruit. RMC Sport writes that the club do not want to part with the midfielder especially since he has recently become a vital part of head coach Roberto De Zerbi’s plans and the player has no intention of leaving.
Rennes have not given up hope and may come back to the case later in the January transfer window especially since Rongier enters the final year of his contract next summer.
