Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is considering the return of young midfielder Gavi for the club’s upcoming fixture against Sevilla, as per Fernando Polo’s report in Mundo Deportivo.

It must be noted that Gavi has made significant strides in his recovery process, having rejoined training sessions with the rest of the squad.

Last Friday, he took part in a portion of the training, marking an important milestone in his rehabilitation journey. Although his exact return to the pitch remains uncertain, there is optimism that he could be fit by the end of the month.

The young midfielder has been sidelined since November 2023, following an ACL injury he sustained while on international duty. Given the severity of the injury, Barcelona’s medical team has approached his recovery with great caution.

Gavi himself has been mindful of not rushing his comeback, supported by the club and those closest to him. The cautious approach has been vital, but recent signs indicate that he is nearing the final phase of his recovery.

Flick has been key to his recovery

It has been suggested that Flick has been especially careful with Gavi since taking charge at Barcelona, prioritising a safe and complete recovery for the midfielder.

The manager’s focus has always been to ensure that Gavi returns in top condition, without risking a premature comeback.

However, with Gavi now training at a high level alongside his teammates, the manager is finding it increasingly difficult to hold him back from rejoining the squad.

His competitive spirit has been clear in training, and Flick has even had to humorously ask him to ease off during some sessions.

A return against Sevilla is possible

As Gavi has been working with the team since September 12, Flick is seriously considering calling him up for the match against Sevilla on October 20, right after the international break.

The game will take place at Montjuic in front of Barcelona’s home supporters, a fitting stage for Gavi’s potential return. Flick is expected to carefully manage Gavi’s minutes, whether as a starter or substitute, to ensure his smooth reintegration into the team.

Barring any setbacks in the next two weeks, Gavi has a strong chance of featuring in the Sevilla match, marking the end of a long recovery journey.
