Report: Champions League hopefuls now in the mix for €20m Chelsea defender

Chelsea have a huge game against Liverpool tomorrow in the chase for the Champions League, but that won’t have stopped the people upstairs pressing ahead with their plans for the summer.
The season will be over in just a few weeks, and now is the time to get deals done. Many of them have already been talked about for a while – and some are already done. But there are also fresh rumours popping up all the time.

One of those has just surfaced today, in a piece by GiveMeSport which focused on the Premier League’s middle class and their needs for the summer. Nottingham Forest have been the surprise package of the season, and could yet qualify for the Champions League this summer if they beat us in a couple of weeks.
Whether they do or not, they’re in a great position to strengthen majorly in the summer, and the piece claims they’re interested in Renato Veiga, our Portugal international defender who has been on loan at Juventus since January.
It’s a move that makes sense for a few reasons. Veiga left us because he wanted to play more in the build-up to the World Cup, and he would certainly be able to do that at Forest. He would also play under a Portuguese coach, Nuno Espirito Santo. Assuming he’s keen to continue playing in the Premier League, it’s a move we can see him jumping at.
Juventus might be able to tempt him on a permanent deal – but we haven’t heard a huge amount that being a possibility. We’ve heard rumours that we’d only ask €20m for Veiga, and while that feels a little low, it’s certainly in the realm of what Forest could afford.
It’s worth keeping an eye on this one, for sure.
