Liverpool’s 20-year-old midfielder Stefan Bajcetic is on the move again, with a loan deal to Las Palmas now confirmed for the remainder of the 2024/25 season. This comes after a challenging spell at RB Salzburg, where consistent minutes proved elusive despite initial hopes of a fruitful stint in Austria.

When Bajcetic joined RB Salzburg last summer, the move appeared ideal. A reunion with familiar Liverpool staff members, combined with regular football opportunities, seemed like the perfect platform to reignite his development after previous injury setbacks.
However, the reality has been underwhelming. Bajcetic has made 18 appearances for Salzburg but only started eight of those games. The midfielder’s omission from Salzburg’s crucial Champions League clash against Real Madrid—a humbling 5-1 defeat—further highlighted his struggles to secure a key role.
Liverpool’s intervention to arrange a new loan comes as no surprise. Daveockop reports that Bajcetic had options, including Getafe and Real Betis, but ultimately chose Las Palmas. This decision prioritises regular game time and a chance to thrive in a competitive La Liga environment.
Arne Slot’s comments before Bajcetic’s initial loan highlighted Liverpool’s intent: “It’s a smart decision, at least in our opinion, to let him go somewhere, where he will hopefully play a lot of games.”

Las Palmas, currently 15th in La Liga, offers Bajcetic a stage to gain vital experience and showcase his potential in Spain’s top flight.
This latest development offers a mixed bag of emotions. On the one hand, Bajcetic’s move to Las Palmas reflects the club’s proactive approach to ensuring young talents gain valuable minutes. On the other, it underscores the challenges the midfielder has faced since his breakthrough at Anfield.
Las Palmas might not be the glamour destination that some hoped for, but it presents an intriguing opportunity. With the club battling to maintain its La Liga status, Bajcetic will find himself in high-pressure situations, a test that could prove invaluable for his growth.
Fans will be eager to see how Bajcetic adapts to the physicality and tempo of La Liga. If he thrives, it bodes well for his eventual return to Anfield, where he could add depth to Liverpool’s midfield. However, concerns linger about whether repeated loan spells might hinder rather than enhance his trajectory.
Arne Slot’s handling of Bajcetic thus far suggests a commitment to his development, but the expectation among fans will be for Liverpool to integrate him into the first team sooner rather than later. Las Palmas may be a stepping stone, but Bajcetic’s performances will determine whether he’s ready to fulfil the potential that once made him a standout prospect.
