Barcelona are reportedly contemplating shifting the upcoming El Clasico in May to a foreign European destination, in light of the uncertainty over Camp Nou being match-ready.

Barça can always play the Clasico at Montjuic, but the agreement with the city council is only valid till April. Not to mention, there is a Rolling Stones concert scheduled for the same weekend as the Clasico.

Keeping that in mind, Barcelona are considering shifting the Clasico to another stadium in Europe, which can accommodate a match of such high magnitude.

Real Madrid willing to respect Barcelona’s move

A recent report from SPORT has revealed what Real Madrid think of Barcelona’s strategy of shifting the Clasico to a location outside Spain.

As per the report, Real Madrid are willing to respect Barcelona’s move, knowing the Catalans may not have other options if the Camp Nou does not become match-ready by May.

This comes on the back of a similar report which claimed that authorities, including the RFEF, could be willing to approve Barcelona’s move.

Should the authorities green-light the move, Real Madrid have no qualms in travelling to a location outside of Spain to play against Barcelona.

Madrid, in fact, see this as a favourable outcome for the club, knowing Barcelona might not receive the same support in a foreign stadium as they would at Camp Nou or the Montjuic, for that matter.

Playing in a neutral ground, therefore, is something Real Madrid favour instead of playing at Barcelona’s home grounds.

That being said, Barcelona’s primary objective is to push the construction works and get the Camp Nou match-ready by May 11.

The Catalans are also considering other alternatives, including shifting the Clasico to Montilivi, a much smaller ground but with a complete Catalan crowd.
