Inter Milan and AC Milan will both pay around €3.5 million per year in rent to the city of Milan for the rental of the San Siro.
This according to Italian outlet Calcio e Finanza. They report that the city have approved the plan as far as the two clubs’ rental of the iconic stadium.
Inter and Milan do not own the San Siro. Rather, they rent the facility from the city of Milan.
That is not entirely unusual in Europe, although most of Europe’s biggest clubs tend to own their own stadium.
That is part of the reason why the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri have been pushing to build a new stadium for several years.
The two clubs want more control of the stadium. They want to be able to make changes that would allow them to increase the revenues they bring in from the facility.
Then, of course, there is the matter of making the rental payments for the city for the use of the stadium.
As Calcio e Finanza note, the rental that Inter and Milan pay to the city of Milan is divided roughly evenly between two portions.
The first, making up 53.3% of the total, is the rental fees that the clubs pay in quarterly instalments.
Then, there is a portion made up of “deductible fees.” These are amounts that the two clubs do not have to pay, in exchange for being responsible for maintenance work on the stadium.
According to Calcio e Finanza, the “deductible fee” for the two clubs will be €6,305,261.14. That is split evenly between the two clubs, meaning that the amount for each club is a little over €3 million.
As such, the portion that each of Inter and Milan will pay to the city will total around €3.5 million, Calcio e Finanza note. The total amount between the two clubs will be €7 million.
