Jeremie Frimpong’s Shirt Number Options at Liverpool Under Arne Slot

Liverpool’s transfer window began with a flourish as Jeremie Frimpong became the club’s first signing of 2025. The 24-year-old right-back joined from Bayer Leverkusen in a £29.6 million deal and wasted no time in expressing his eagerness to link up with Premier League champions Liverpool.

“I told my agents, ‘Just get it done.’ As soon as I heard Liverpool were interested, I was ready,” said Frimpong, speaking after his signing was officially announced.

Having arrived under the stewardship of new manager Arne Slot, who led Liverpool to the league title in his debut campaign, Frimpong brings pace, energy and attacking verve to the right flank. His addition comes at a time of transition for the Reds, particularly after the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid.

As Frimpong prepares for pre-season, one minor but intriguing detail remains: which number will the Dutch international wear when he steps out in Liverpool red?

Frimpong’s Preferred Number 30 is Available

Throughout his senior club career, Frimpong has worn the number 30 shirt. The good news for him, and for supporters hoping to see continuity, is that the number is currently unassigned at Liverpool.

Notably, the last first-team player to don the number 30 at Anfield was Suso back in the 2014/15 season. Prior to that, fellow Dutchman Boudewijn Zenden had worn the number briefly in the mid-2000s. With no current occupant, the door is wide open for Frimpong to reclaim his familiar squad number and make it his own on Merseyside.

Other Numbers That Could Suit Frimpong

While number 30 seems the most likely option, several other shirt numbers remain available for Frimpong. The number 6 shirt is open following Thiago Alcantara’s departure, though this number is traditionally favoured by central midfielders or defenders, and may be reserved for a future arrival in those positions.

On international duty with the Netherlands, Frimpong has often worn number 12, which is also available at Liverpool. Alongside 12, numbers 13, 15 and 16 are unclaimed among the lower squad numbers.

In the higher range, only number 26 is currently in use – that belongs to Andy Robertson – while the rest of the 22–37 bracket is vacant, offering Frimpong a wide selection if he chooses to opt for something different.

Summer Departures Could Create More Options

Of course, the shirt number landscape could shift further as Liverpool’s summer transfer activity unfolds. One name potentially on the move is Kostas Tsimikas. According to the Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele, the Greek full-back is “80%–85%” likely to leave Anfield this summer. If that move materialises, his number 21 shirt would become available.

Such developments could influence Frimpong’s choice, although many fans will be hoping for a swift decision to personalise their new Adidas kits in time for the start of pre-season.

Frimpong Ready to Make His Mark Under Slot

Arne Slot’s early business in the transfer market suggests Liverpool are determined to build from a position of strength. Jeremie Frimpong, with his attacking instincts and defensive discipline, offers an exciting option down the right side of the pitch.

His immediate desire to join, coupled with his proven Bundesliga form, makes this a signing of intent from the reigning champions. Whether he wears 30, 12 or another number altogether, Liverpool fans will be eager to see their new full-back light up Anfield in the months to come.
