Rio Ferdinand believes Man United star deserves more praise

Fans and pundits have constantly scrutinised Bruno Fernandes’ performances.
Despite helping Manchester United secure a 2-2 draw at Everton, scoring a brilliant free-kick in the fixture, he has not been spared from criticism.
Premier League record top-scorer Alan Shearer criticised the Portuguese for his role in Everton’s second goal in the clash, faulting his work ethic.
The fact that he has received two red cards in the league this season, the most of any United player, has also given credence to some of the criticisms.
However, former United defender Rio Ferdinand believes the Portugal international deserves more commendation and not criticism.
He told Rio Ferdinand Presents: “Bruno (Fernandes) is massively disrespected. No player has created more chances in the Premier League since he signed for United. Not Kevin De Bruyne, not anybody.
“One of the things he gets criticised for, and I understand why he does – you have to look at why he is doing what he is doing.
“Sometimes you see him going to the full-back, to the centre-back to try and get the ball and then getting up front on the edge of the box to do crazy things.
“That is frustration because he cannot do what he should be doing.”
Fernandes is not flawless, but he has been United’s most consistent player since arriving at the club from Sporting CP.
He is the only player to have registered double figures in both goals and assists every season since his arrival.
The 30-year-old has missed out on the club’s Player of the Year just once since moving to Old Trafford, and he could clinch another at the end of this term.
It is no surprise that he has been described as a ‘really important’ player by manager Ruben Amorim.
While Fernandes needs to improve his attitude, there is no denying that he has been a good player for United and should be appreciated.
