River Plate got back to winning ways tonight during a dominant 1-0 win over Atlético Tucumán that struggled to reflect the gap between both sides at Estadio Mâs Monumental.

Sent off: Santiago Simón 90+3'

A dominant opening 45 minutes of action was not enough to gift River a more-than-justified advantage on the scoresheet before the interval, despite Marcelo Gallardo's Los Millonarios managing 18 shots against Facundo Sava's El Decano outfit.

Despite the frustrating scoreline heading into the second stanza, there was a real sense that River would still come out on top in front of home support to get back on track in the Apertura race.

Gallardo's men continued to dominate proceedings after the break before former Argentina youth international Facundo Colidio finally broke the deadlock in the 79th minute, scoring his first goal in a month after a brace against Independiente.

His lone goal would be enough to bank all three points on the night, but River perhaps can count themselves lucky, however, after Santiago Simón received his marching orders after seeing a straight red in the third minute of stoppage time.

River now climbs back up to second and ahead of Rosario Central and San Lorenzo in the table, while now resting just two points adrift of El Rojo.

Up next for the Argentine giants, an away day at Deportivo Riestra on Saturday.
