Mancini departs after a tumultuous spell in charge of the Gulf nation, which saw him manage just 20 games, and win only eight of them. His final game in charge saw him tell angrily tell a fan to ‘f*** off’ as Saudi stumbled to 0-0 draw with Bahrain that leaves their hopes of qualification for the 2026 World Cup up in the air.

The appointment of the 59-year-old came with much fanfare, given his record at both club and international level. Mancini won multiple Serie A titles with Inter while he was the first manager to lift silverware for Manchester City in over 30 years, winning both the Premier League and FA Cup in the early 2010s.

His crowning achievement came in 2021 when he led Italy to EURO 2020 success, defeating England on penalties at Wembley.
