Brentford winger Tariqe Fosu is set to have his loan spell at Stoke City terminated so that he can move to Rotherham United for the remainder of the 2022-23 season, according to the Stoke Sentinel.

The 27-year-old was expected to make an impact at the Bet365 Stadium when he arrived from the Bees on a season-long loan, but in his 20 Championship appearances for the Potters – 13 of them starts – he has notched just one assist.

And in City’s last five league matches, Fosu has been on the pitch for just 19 minutes as he has fallen out of favour with head coach Alex Neil, and he is set to allow the club to sent the four-cap Ghana international back to Brentford so he can move elsewhere.

Stoke’s divisional rivals Rotherham are in the market for new additions, with Fosu able to play on either flank as a winger or a wing-back.

Quiz: Are these 20 Rotherham United facts real or fake?

And they are set to confirm his arrival in due course as the Millers look to gain some traction in the relegation battle following last weekend’s 4-0 drubbing of Blackburn Rovers.

The Verdict

This could be an incredibly shrewd piece of business from Rotherham.

Fosu has plenty of Championship experience with Brentford and whilst his half-season at Stoke hasn’t perhaps panned out as planned, he still has a lot to offer someone.

Aside from Chiedozie Ogbene, one thing that Rotherham are perhaps lacking out wide is some pace and dynamism, and with Matt Taylor changing the formation last week to a 4-3-3, Fosu can offer a threat from the left flank whilst Ogbene plays on the right, or if he reverts back to a 3-5-2 then he can be utilised at wing-back.

Both Rotherham and Stoke are in the relegation dogfight right now, so Stoke’s decision to not make the best use of Fosu could come back to haunt them if he performs for the Millers.
