Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has spoken ahead of the Newcastle United match on Sunday.

Man U have nothing to play for in the Premier League, apart from very faint hopes of rising from 13th to scrape into the top half of the table.

Ruben Amorim and his team only have Europa League interest and ahead of Thursday’s second leg in the quarter-final, the tie is level at 2-2, Amorim not wanting to admit he will leave some of his few better players out on Sunday at St James’ Park, but clearly that appears inevitable.

“There is a great responsibility…we don’t have a team [squad] that is really big and then we have players that I know cannot make 90 minutes in this moment… so we have to be really careful. So we will try to address all these subjects in the game against Newcastle United…but we have a great responsibility when we play any games.”

Bruno Fernandes is quite clearly Man U’s best player and I think quite clearly Ruben Amorim all but admitting he won’t start against United, as he will be desperately needed against Lyon on Thursday:

“Bruno Fernandes is playing all the time and he is playing better all the time, sometimes this kind of player doesn’t play in every match…but we will address that.”

Ruben Amorim has also praised Joshua Zirkzee and said he is doing a great job.

The Man U striker was ironically cheered off by his own fans in December on 33 minutes at Old Trafford, with Newcastle United dominating and leading 2-0.

Ruben Amorim:

“Joshua Zirkzee is doing a great job, but also a very important thing was the way the fans reacted after that incident.

“Even if Josh is not playing, you see every time he gets on the pitch, or is just warming up, our fans sing the Josh song.

“That is massive for the boy.

“So it is 50-50. 50 per cent the fans and 50 per cent on the part of Josh.

“As a former player, I wanted to hear some explanation from the coaches on that, I just want to help the team.

“And then work with him [Joshua Zirkzee], all the work that all the staff is doing with him and he is improving, and then put it into play.

“This is the only way to show confidence in him.”

Joshua Zirkzee has failed to score a single Premier League goal since that defeat to Newcastle United in December.

Indeed, in the 30 PL appearances he has made since the opening weekend of the season, Zirkzee has only scored in one of those 30 games.
