Manchester United head coach has indicated that injured defensive duo Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelof are close to returning to action.
Shaw’s fitness struggles have limited him to just three appearances across all competitions this season, all of which have come from the bench.
After a lengthy period on the sidelines that forced him to miss the start of the campaign, Shaw came back just as Ruben Amorim’s reign was starting.
The England international featured in matches against Ipswich Town, Bodo/Glimt and Everton before he suffered a fresh setback that has kept him out since then.
Meanwhile, Lindelof made a rare start in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup against Tottenham Hotspur but picked up an injury, necessitating his withdrawal in the first half.
Ahead of United’s meeting with Liverpool on Sunday, Amorim gave updates on Shaw and Lindelof.
Amorim also confirmed that in addition to Marcus Rashford who will miss the game with illness, Jonny Evans will also not be available for selection.
Evans missed Monday’s match against Newcastle, with 16-year-old academy defender Godwill Kukonki named on the bench in his place.
Amorim told club media, “No, I think Rashford is ill. Jonny is out.”
“I think the rest – Vic is almost there and Luke also. But they are out. The others, I think, are fit.”
United add that Mason Mount is still recovering from a thigh injury sustained in the comeback victory over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City last month.
The England international is expected to return in March.
Liverpool vs. United kicks off at 16:30 GMT.
