Manchester United have been forced to play Diogo Dalot as the left wing-back due to Luke Shaw’s injury-enforced absence while Tyrell Malacia has struggled since his return from a major injury.
Ruben Amorim has admitted that his compatriot is more suited to the right flank, even though he was far from good in the game against Bournemouth last weekend.
The Portuguese is desperate for the club to find a solution to the problem in January and as per journalist Rudy Galetti, he has already identified a potential option.
The club have been long-term admirers of Girona’s Miguel Gutierrez and the Spaniard recently asked his parent club to let him go, thereby increasing the possibility of seeing him strut his stuff at the Theatre of Dreams.
Galetti has even claimed that Amorim has given his green light for the deal with the Spanish club waiting for the first offer. The 23-year-old has a release clause of €35 million.
“Man UTD are ready to take important steps for Miguel Gutierrez, as revealed. The Spanish player is at the top of the shortlist as a new possible LB: Amorim has already given his ok.
“Girona wait for the first proposal from MUFC: the release clause is set at €35m,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
The Spain international was one of the standouts from Girona’s historic season last time out, with Gutierrez registering nine assists as well as two goals as his club qualified for the Champions League for the first time.
He has carried his good form into the current campaign, netting twice already while also garnering five assists. He has played both as a left back and a left wingback and is considered a great fit for Amorim’s system.
The former Real Madrid ace’s attacking output coupled with his feisty defensive contributions have made him an attractive target for a number of clubs around Europe.
It will interesting to see if United opt for the Champions League winner or go for a short-term loan deal in January before trying to sign someone permanently next summer.
The likes of former United academy player Alvaro Fernandez Carreras, Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri and Cherries star Milos Kerkez are also on the shortlist.
