Nicolò Savona admits it was a ‘dream’ to score on his first senior start for Juventus, while Dusan Vlahovic seemed eager to avoid criticising Thiago Motta’s predecessor Max Allegri.

With only two rounds played in Serie A, Juve are the sole team remaining with a 100 per cent record, following up the 3-0 victory over Como with an identical result away to Hellas Verona.

Vlahovic scored twice and it was almost a hat-trick, but he did not connect with the Savona looping header on the line, so gave the credit to the 21-year-old in his first senior start.

“He told me that he didn’t touch it, so he left it to me. I am very happy to have scored my first goal and helped the team win,” Savona told DAZN.

“It is a dream, I hope to continue like this.”

The 21-year-old received his first senior start for the club that he first joined at the age of 8, travelling huge distances to attend training and working his way up through the NextGen side to senior squad.

Savona Juventus dream, Vlahovic breaks duck

Vlahovic had been frustrated after the opening game, hitting the woodwork and seeing goals disallowed by VAR, so breaking his duck with a brace must’ve been a sigh of relief.

“We are playing a different style of football. That doesn’t mean we didn’t do well last year. I was a bit unlucky in the first round, I scored twice today and we had the right attitude, which is fundamental. The result is just a consequence of all that hard work,” said the Serbian.

It had been said that Juve were too negative under Allegri and Vlahovic was very careful not to seem like he was comparing new boss Thiago Motta to his predecessor.

“I would not like for it to be interpreted the wrong way. He is certainly working hard on our aggression and our attitude. We all agree that our attitude is the key to everything, if we have the right mentality, it all works better.

“We play for each other, but also there are tactical changes that we know about.”

As if the two victories weren’t enough to get Juve optimistic, they are still to add new signings Nico Gonzalez and Francisco Conceicao, with Teun Koopmeiners and potentially Jadon Sancho also set to join before Friday’s transfer deadline.
