Multiple reports have revealed that Schalke are in negotiations to appoint Plymouth manager Miron Muslic as their new head coach.
It was first reported by Fabrizio Romano that Schalke had activated the clause to bring Muslic to the club, and Plymouth then released a statement confirming this. Sky Germany reports that Muslic is being offered a contract until 2027 by die Königsblau.
Schalke are now working on finalising the deal. Muslic had attracted attention from other clubs recently, with Hannover 96 previously interested in the winter, while 1.FC Köln were also interested.
In his short spell at Plymouth, Muslic led them to an unlikely FA Cup win against Premier League champions Liverpool, while the team fell short of safety in the Championship. The Bosnian, who grew up in Austria, has previously coached at SV Ried in the Austrian Bundesliga before leading Cercle Brugge to the European Playoff Round in Belgium.
Schalke are coming off a turbulent season that saw both Karel Geraerts and Kees van Wonderen sacked by the club. Earlier yesterday, Christian Titz was considered the top candidate for the role at die Königsblau, but the move fell through.
The move for Muslic comes as a surprise to some as his profile is completely different to the one that was bried to journalists.
