Manchester United fans will rightfully feel deflated after the side conceded a last-gasp equaliser to Olympique Lyonnais last night.

Andre Onana’s dismal showing will be taking all the headlines this morning – even more so due to his bizarre pre-match back-and-forth with Nemanja Matic.

After claiming United were ‘way better’ than their French opponents, the Serbian hit back by branding Onana as ‘one of the worst goalkeepers’ in the club’s history. In fairness, he has a point. The ex-Ajax and Inter Milan man then took to social media to react, but couldn’t respond in the way supporters actually wanted of him: with a top performance.

Instead, Onana was at fault for both Thiago Almada’s opener and Rayan Cherki’s leveller, making him the only goalkeeper since the start of last season to oversee more errors leading to goals (eight) than all of his Premier League counterparts (Opta).

Paul Scholes shares updated verdict on current crop of United players

When reacting to the night’s affairs on TNT Sports post-match, Paul Scholes shared his verdict on the current state of United’s squad, which, excluding Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu, is how Ruben Amorim inherited it.

The Red Devils legend highlighted just how sorely missed Amad has been since throughout his injury layoff and acknowledged how Leny Yoro has stepped up to the mark in his maiden United campaign.

“You know, defensively, they don’t look too bad, I suppose. I think the wing-backs defensively are okay but, going forward, not quite good enough. [Amad] Diallo could come into that and be a better type of wing-back going forward, especially,” Scholes told the panel.

“They probably need another centre-half with [Matthijs] de Ligt, and I think Yoro is starting to look like the player that we expected he’d be. Quality in midfield, again, doesn’t look quite good enough at the minute. Like I said, Bruno Fernandes, you need that player with quality in the midfield, and you also need his quality up that end of the pitch as well.

“The way Amorim plays, you talked about two number 10s as well. Are they there? Bruno Fernandes obviously could be one of them. Can you play Kobbie Mainoo in that position? I think he needs better.”
