The SWPL has confirmed the next group of ScottishPower Women’s Premier League matches selected for broadcast in the post-split phase.
BBC ALBA have selected five matches in April, starting with a derby double header on the 13 April. First off is the Edinburgh derby, with Hibernian currently top of the league and looking to continue their excellent run of winning form in the league that spans back to the end of November. Local rivals Hearts on the other hand will be hoping to close the gap on their neighbours at the top and regain the bragging rights following a win apiece for both sides so far this season in this fixture.
This match will be followed up by recent Sky Sports Cup winners Rangers taking on Celtic, who will be hoping to regain some momentum in the title race away at their city rivals. Rangers, alternatively, will be looking to continue their recent unbeaten form in this fixture, having won twice and drawn once in the three meetings so far this season across the League and Sky Sports Cup.
BBC ALBA have also selected the clash of the current top two and Sky Sports Cup Final repeat, Hibernian v Rangers on the 20 April. This falls between two compelling Wednesday evening fixtures under the Petershill and Broadwood lights on the 16 and 30 April respectively, between Glasgow City and Rangers, both also on BBC ALBA.
BBC Sport Scotland have selected the remaining top six fixture on the 13 April between Glasgow City and Motherwell, as well as the Hearts v Glasgow City match on 20th April. Glasgow City will be hoping to put their stamp on the title race in these two fixtures however the Women of Steel and the Jambos will be looking to go one better themselves, narrowly coming out second best to City in the head-to-heads so far this season.
Fiona McIntyre, SWPL Managing Director, said: “The SWPL post-split fixtures are incredibly unpredictable, and we expect will make compelling viewing. The number of matches selected for broadcast in this key month of the season is indicative of the growing interest and excitement as we approach what promises to be a thrilling conclusion to the season. All of the teams across the league will play a crucial part in determining the course of the season and there is still all to play for at both ends of the table.
“We are delighted that fans will continue to be provided the opportunity to watch the pick of the action in the SWPL if they are unable to make it to the stadium in person. I encourage all supporters to continue to get along to matches where they can or to tune into the title race via BBC ALBA and BBC Sport Scotland.”
