‘Seeing him at PSG? That would be a bit more difficult’ – Luca Zidane jokes about Zinédine Zidane’s managerial future

The question of when and where ZInédine Zidane will make his managerial comeback remains a pertinent one, but not an answered one. The former Real Madrid manager has been without a job since leaving Los Blancos back in 2021. The Frenchman has been frequently linked with the managerial position at Paris Saint-Germain, but speaking to Carré, his son, Luca Zidane, has joked that it would be “difficult” to see his dad manage at the Parc des Princes.

Zidane’s name is often cited when a managerial vacancy opens up. He was strongly linked with the PSG job in the summer before Luis Enrique took the role, whilst he has also been touted for vacancies at Juventus, Manchester United, and home-town club Olympique de Marseille.

However, it has been reported that Zidane dreams of managing Les Bleus, and he perhaps thought his time had come after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. However, to the surprise of many, Didier Deschamps extended his contract with France until 2026. With Carlo Ancelotti also extending his Real Madrid contract until 2026, another door has now closed.

Zidane a reported target for Marseille

A move to Marseille isn’t entirely unfeasible, although stars would have to align. It was reported by France Bleu Provence back in September 2023 that Zidane had agreed to become manager of Les Phocéens’ sale to Saudi Arabia. However, rumours of a sale remain just that – rumours, with current owner Frank McCourt making it clear that he does not wish to sell the Ligue 1 giants.

Luca Zidane, a goalkeeper at SD Eibar, has spoken about the chances of his father managing OM. “It isn’t taboo to talk about my dad for Marseille, but we speak about it too much. Whatever happens, he will be the one that makes the decision on where he wants to manage and we will be happy with his decision,” said the Eibar goalkeeper.

However, he did caveat his statement: “Seeing him at PSG? That would be a bit more difficult.” Despite frequent links to Les Parisiens, it would appear that a move to the Parc des Princes would not get the seal of approval in the Zidane household.
