Roma edged out Fiorentina via a 1-0 scoreline to seal European qualification on the final day of the season. Elsewhere, second-placed Inter wrapped up the season with a win over Serie A Femminile champions Juventus.
Here, we will round up all the action from the final four matches of the 2024/25 Serie A Femminile campaign.
Fiorentina knew they had to claim three points if they were to snatch third place from Roma. However, it was the visitors who emerged victorious on the final matchday of the season.
Roma were given the chance to go to the penalty spot in the opening stages of the second period after Emilie Haavi was fouled by Kaja Eržen. Manuela Giugliano stepped up to send the goalkeeper the wrong way to net her 12th league goal of the season.
Fiorentina went agonisingly close to finding a response to Giugliano’s penalty. Sofie Bredgaard hit the bar before Emma Severini was denied by the woodwork on two separate occasions.
Roma were also frustrated by the woodwork a couple of times in the final half an hour. As it proved, Giugliano’s effort was enough to secure all three points and qualification for next season’s Women’s Champions League.
Recently crowned champions Juventus fell to a narrow defeat on the final day of the season. The contest remained goalless until Inter broke the deadlock in the 76th minute. Haley Bugeja received the ball in the box and neatly worked the space to fire past Alessia Capelletti.
Juventus were unable to produce a response, but the result did little to dampen the celebratory mood in the Allianz Stadium. The champions received their hard-earned medals, and the retiring Sara Gama lifted Juventus’ first Serie A Femminile trophy since 2022.
Relegated Sampdoria ended their stint in the top flight with a disappointing defeat against Sassuolo. Giada Pellegrino Cimò netted her first Serie A goal to get Sampdoria off to the perfect start. The Roma loanee raced onto a long ball forward, before she slotted a left-footed shot past Erica Di Nallo.
Sampdoria’s hopes of claiming their second league win of the season were dealt a blow when they were reduced to 10 players in the 21st minute. The referee ruled that Alice Barbieri’s reckless challenge on Valeria Monterubbiano was worthy of a red card.
Monterubbiano picked herself up to scramble home an equaliser just past the half-hour mark. Surprisingly, Sampdoria grabbed the game’s next goal despite being a player light. Sara Baldi drove a low shot into the far corner to restore the visitors’ advantage with over 20 minutes left to play.
Unfortunately for Sampdoria, they lost their lead for a second time when Emma Girotto turned home Lana Clelland’s near-post cross. Clelland then ran in behind to fire an unstoppable shot past Amanda Tampieri to turn the game in Sassuolo’s favour.
Just moments later, Clelland grabbed her second to make sure of the victory, moving the hosts onto 34 points. While Sassuolo finished in eighth position, Sampdoria ended the campaign at the bottom of the table with just 10 points to their name.
Como finished the campaign with back-to-back victories after they followed a narrow win over Sampdoria with a successful outing in Saturday’s home clash with Napoli.
Julia Karlernäs tapped in from Nadine Nischler’s flick-on to open the scoring in the 11th minute. However, they were in front for just two minutes, as Matilde Lundorf Skovsen squeezed the ball in from a deep cross to score against her former club.
As it proved, Como were level for just over 20 minutes until Alex Kerr netted her sixth league goal of the season after being teed up by Nischler.
Buoyed by her two assists, Nischler got her own name on the scoresheet in the second half. The 24-year-old lobbed Beatrice Beretta with a first-time shot to net her 11th league goal of the season.
While Napoli fell to a fourth defeat in five matches, they already knew they had achieved their main objective of preserving their top-flight status.
